Dale Marcell could not contain his love for music. He was a self-described “rhythmist” and founded the Marcell School of Drum to share his love with students.
Dale spent over 20 years in the music industry, but he always returned to what he called “the bare bones of music” – rhythm.
It’s this rhythm that Dale believed to be a universal language, and which can be remembered and communicated through drumming.
Anyone who attended the Marcell School of Drum quickly learned how drumming can help relieve stress, build confidence and empower participants. That’s why students at the school so frequently acted as guides, turning many groups from all places and of various interests, faiths and beliefs, on to drumming.
Through drum circles, Dale focused on the healing powers of drumming.
“It takes just one empowered individual to empower others,” he said. After people got started, they’d find their rhythm, and the magic: “The first awkward movements of a group of strangers transform into one cohesive rhythmic voice, and in minutes positive energy moves through the crowd.”
Witnessing how drumming could change people’s lives gave Dale great satisfaction.
