Music

Dave Thompson has made a career of being a guitarist-for-hire. He is the touring and recording guitarist for Juno-nominated jazz-urban singer Kellylee Evans, and also tours with Juno award winner Susan Aglukark.

Dave studied jazz composition (with Herb Pomeroy) and guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and has worked thousands of gigs in concert halls, festivals, summer resorts, clubs, musical theatre, radio and TV, as well as on many CDs as a sideman.

Dave has opened for George Benson, Richard Bona, Chris Botti and others as a member of Kellylee Evans’ group, and has toured extensively, including concerts in almost every province and territory Canada (including Nunavut) and in several US states. Some jazz festivals include Vancouver, Anacortes, Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto and North Carolina, and folk festivals include Vancouver, Summerfolk, Edmonton, Vancouver Island and others.

Recent performance experience includes guitarist for musical theatre productions, including those of Drayton Entertainment.

Dave teaches privately in his studio and also as an adjunct professor of music at Heritage College in Cambridge, Ontario. With years of recording experience, and with his own “Studio Indigo,” he has played, engineered, produced and arranged on many releases and demo projects.

Dave credits former bandleader Kenny Munshaw with much of his early experience and development as a working musician. His guitar and writing influences include Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Alex Lifeson, Duke Ellington, Reg Schwager, Joni Mitchell, Wes Montgomery, Gil Evans, Sting, George Benson, Lyle Lovett and many more.
