Tim Louis has been described as a triple-threat talent: singer, songwriter and pianist. As a performer, Louis connects with his audience with his warm and inviting personality. His vocal and piano work is both confident and relaxed, revealing an elegant charm that takes the listener on a memorable musical journey. Self assured, Louis possesses a maturity in his songwriting, creating songs that are meaningful yet avoid the obvious.
For his 2009 CD Untrue Louis has written a collection of originals that are diverse yet naturally meld with one another. He has also introduced pop songs into his jazz repertoire; a departure from his last CD’s all original lineup.
In addition to tunes penned by Louis are jazz arrangements of artists that include The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, and Johnny Cash. This wide stylistic range is brought together by Louis’s deft music arrangement skills. “The diversity in song selection comes from the fact that I grew up listening to everything on the radio; my influences were up and down the dial,” Louis recalls. “The underlying theme of Untrue is about people getting together. Playing music is an art form that brings people together. Interacting with an audience for me is compelling, and often inspires me in my songwriting.”
Untrue was produced by Juno Award-winning producer J. Richard Hutt (Northern Pikes, Tom Cochrane) and mixed by Juno nominated engineer George Seara (Herbie Hancock, Sting, Holly Cole). “Surrounding yourself with talented people helps take your music to a level you could not achieve alone. I’ve been fortunate enough to have this type of collaboration.”
Louis is a graduate of New Jersey’s Rutgers University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Music studying under jazz great Kenny Barron. He has produced music for two independent short films, a TV theme song, and session work on other projects.
With over 300 live performances a year, he has also performed for former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former Prime Minister of Canada Jean Chrétien and Britain’s Prince Andrew. In 2010, Tim released a holiday CD, Snowflakes in Bloom, and performed with the KW Symphony for their Yuletide Spectacular shows at the River Run Centre and the Centre in the Square.
